Sleepy Hippo by the Shady Pond

This plump, gentle hippo lies fast asleep beside a quiet pond, with her round belly pressing into the soft, muddy ground. Three tiny flies buzz lazily above her, zig-zagging near her peaceful face. She rests with her eyes closed, a faint smile curving her lips as if she’s dreaming of splashing in cool water.

Tall grass pokes up all around, with smooth stones and puddles scattered nearby. Two small ears stick up over her broad head, and her big, comfy paws flop forward. Everything looks still and calm in this wild, sunny spot, where a hippo can nap without a care.

Fun Fact!

A hippo mother usually gives birth to only one calf at a time, and often gives birth in the water.
