Sunbeam Walrus on the Shore

A plump walrus lounges on a chilly shore, his big flippers tucked beneath his round body. Two long tusks dangle down like icicles, and his whiskers poke out in every direction as he stares ahead with a calm, gentle face. Curvy lines wrap around his neck and belly, making him look extra wrinkly and huggable. Behind him, the sun pops up, sending bright rays across the sky like a giant sparkler.

At the walrus’s side, bold zig-zag shapes hint at chunks of sea ice or snowy rocks. The walrus sits up tall, chest out, as if he’s soaking in every golden bit of sunlight. His whole body seems to glow with the warmth of the sun. With every line and wrinkle, he waits, quiet and patient, inviting a splash of color to bring his world to life.

Walruses have a very thick layer of blubber, or fat, under their skin that can be up to 6 inches (15 cm) thick, which keeps them warm in the icy Arctic water.
