Wildebeest Leap Over the Log

A strong wildebeest springs high over a fallen log. His curved horns point forward and his shaggy mane stands up like a brush. He tucks his legs close and flicks his tail as he sails, eyes locked on the ground ahead.

Grass tufts poke up around the log, and a small bush sits on the slope. The log shows bumpy bark and ring lines, just right for tiny stripes of color. Big open sky fills the top, waiting for blue or sunset shades. The whole scene feels fast and bouncy, like a quick playground hop.

Fun Fact!

A wildebeest's coat provides good camouflage against the earthy tones of the African savanna.

Coloring Tips

  1. 1 Use short, quick strokes on the neck and back to make the mane look bristly.
  2. 2 Blend tan and gray on the body for a dusty savanna coat.
  3. 3 Add a soft blue shadow under the belly and behind the log to show the jump.
  4. 4 Flick the pencil upward to draw spiky grass, then dot around the hooves for flying dust.
