Wombat by the Quiet Pond

A round-nosed wombat pads along the pond bank, head low and steady. Her small ears tilt forward, and one sturdy paw lifts mid-step. Tall reeds frame the path, and cattails rise like brown candles on both sides.

The water keeps her company, copying her face in a smooth reflection. Gentle lines ripple across the pond, so her nose looks a little wiggly. Tufts of grass sprout around her feet and along the shore. The scene feels calm, with clear spaces for fur, water, and plants.

Fun Fact!

A young wombat joey will stay in the burrow for the first five months of its life before it ever sees the outside world.

Coloring Tips

  1. 1 Use soft gray or brown layers for her fur, then add darker strokes on the belly and legs.
  2. 2 Blend two blues for the pond and leave thin white streaks for shiny ripples.
  3. 3 Color the reflection slightly lighter and blurrier than the wombat on land.
  4. 4 Mix greens for the reeds, and dot a warm brown on the cattail tops.
