Wombat Peekaboo in the Woods

A round-nosed wombat pops up behind a fallen log, paws hooked over the wood like a tiny climber. His whiskers curve out from plump cheeks and his bright eyes watch the quiet bush. Short ears tilt forward, and that big soft nose looks ready to sniff the leaves.

Tall trees rise in tidy rows, their bark lined with swirls and dashes. Fern fronds stretch at the log's sides while little grasses poke up like green spikes. Wavy wood grain runs across the log, perfect for long crayon strokes, and the whole forest waits while this brave boy says hello.

Fun Fact!

A wombat might spend about 3 to 8 hours each night foraging for food.

Coloring Tips

  1. 1 Layer light gray and tan on his fur, then add darker gray along the edges for fluffy depth.
  2. 2 Follow the wavy lines on the log with two browns to show textured bark.
  3. 3 Mix greens for ferns and leaves; add a touch of yellow-green up front for sunshine.
  4. 4 Soft blue between trunks can hint at sky peeking through the trees.
