Zebras Before the Storm

Two lines of zebras meet on a dry plain. Three on the left, three on the right, they stand nose to nose with careful hooves. A long crack splits the ground like a zigzag path between them. Their neat stripes curve around round tummies, strong legs, and curious faces.

High above, thick clouds pile up, as dark as cocoa. Two lightning bolts zip down in sharp, bright angles. Ears point forward and manes flick, as if the herd listens for thunder. The wide horizon sits quiet while the broken earth waits for rain.

Fun Fact!

The pupils in a zebra's eyes are horizontal, which gives it an even wider field of view from side to side.

Coloring Tips

  1. 1 Trace the zebra stripes with a thin black marker, then add soft gray between for fur.

  3. 3 Color the lightning bright yellow and outline it with pale blue to make it glow.
  4. 4 Layer sandy beige and brown on the cracked earth; shade the deep rift darkest.
